This was me on Sunday with the lovely Debbie McGee of BBC Berkshire. I was there to talk about the history of Simnel cakes. Traditionally made around Easter time, this medium fruitcake with a layer of marzipan on top and running through the middle is a real favourite at this time of year. There are eleven balls on the top to represent the apostles (Judas isn’t there because of his betrayal of Jesus!). It was also a widely given cake on Mother’s day, as this was the only day of the year that staff had off!
